A carved wooden pūtōrino (Māori long wooden flute). Carved by the Waikato based carver Alex Sands. This flute is carved from a single piece of wood which is first split, then hollowed out, then lashed back together. It features Māori designs carved at both ends, and around the fingering hole. The flute comes mounted on an andesite base, from which it can easily be removed for playing.
The flute is 250mm long by 35mm at its widest point.
